Do Better, Be better

working draft

This is my personal philosophy of how I want to live my life.

To Do better, Be better. Take better actions, use the learning from the actions or by acquiring knowledge and understanding to be better, to be able to take better actions.

Leaning and understanding have cycles of compression and expansion, the better a system understands it's internal and externals, the better it is able to function, better the actions and the results of it's actions.

Sometimes, we know nothing, and it is the easiest to start by taking action to get some learnings, they might not be the most effective, but can kick start the process of learning and understanding.

Yet at other times, we need to take the time to first learn and understand before taking action.

When to chose one or the other itself is understanding of the situation and the context.

I call this the Dobist philosophy or Dobism.

A system that eternally keeps feeding itself to reach equilibrium. In perfect conditions it might find a stable point, but in a dynamical and changing environment, there will always be perturbations that will move it off center and need it to keep adjusting. As such, understanding itself becomes a state where it is invariant to perturbations and the feedback from actions does not get it to lose that quality.

Perhaps, there is something to be said about moving out of the equilibrium, to shake things up from time to time to find a larger basin of equilibria. I haven't run enough experiments or gotten deep enough to have a strong opinion on that aspect yet.

I apply this lens to small situations or large, layered, overlapped or entangled, I apply it on a meta level on my life and purpose. Which is to say, I am on the path of Dobism and will at some point find the equilibria and perhaps shake things up to see if that point was the true one or not.
